 The Ambassador Case Studies

Danielle Redfearn – Academy 96

I’ve always had a deep passion for dance, having started dancing at the age of 5, and I’ve always known that I wanted to teach one day. Throughout my journey, I’ve competed in dance competitions and earned trophies, and now I’m fortunate enough to share those experiences by teaching young dancers.

While I love all styles of dance, my true passion lies in freestyle, lyrical, acrobatic, and fitness dance. These unique and niche styles are not commonly offered by many dance schools, and I’m proud to specialise in them.

My students range in age from 3 to 18 years old, and I’m committed to creating an inclusive environment where all abilities can thrive. I believe every dancer deserves the opportunity to perform. Currently, I run classes in North Hull and Cottingham, with aspirations to expand throughout Hull and the East Riding in the future.

I joined MC4C in June 2024. At the time, I had been teaching at another dance school for six years, but I knew my ultimate goal was to start my own business. MC4C helped me develop essential business skills. My advisor guided me through the process of creating a business plan, researching insurances, and conducting market research. The workshops were incredibly helpful and have supported me as I’ve grown my business.

Thanks to the Test Market Grant of £703.19, I was able to purchase the necessary equipment to get started. I bought eight tri-fold mats, sixteen sets of yoga blocks, sixteen sets of ankle weights, a banner for advertising, and an air tumble gymnastics track. I’m truly grateful for all the support I’ve received.

Top Tip – Work as hard as you can in your business and follow your ambitions. Don’t let people make you think it will not work, if you believe in yourself and work hard for it you WILL succeed.

Chelsie Cannon-Bowie - Donche Designs & Events

After facing challenges with traditional education, I always knew that I wanted to pursue something creative. My passion for creativity has always been a driving force, and I was certain that I could turn my creative talents into a successful business.

I began with photography, which initially started as a hobby and a way to help a friend who ran dance competitions. I would photograph the dancers during the shows, and my friend would use the photos for her promotional materials. Along the way, I discovered my knack for creating celebration balloons, like towers and arches. Wanting to stand out from other balloon artists, I decided to personalise my designs, which eventually led me to explore creating other custom items.

Running my business brings me immense joy, providing a sense of pride and accomplishment. My business, Donche Designs and Events is named after both my mum (Donna) and myself (Chelsie).

My mum has been a constant support, often driving me to deliver balloons or to locations for photoshoots. I’ve also received great support from MC4C. When I first approached them in April 2024, I didn’t fully understand how to run a business, though I knew I had a creative talent. They taught me everything I needed to know, and my advisor was incredibly patient with me. Even though I’ve completed the program, I know I can always turn to them for additional support whenever needed.

I received a test market grant of £699.52, this allowed me to purchase foldable table and table clothes for when I do stalls, a gazebo in case any of my events are outdoors, a banner for promotion and then a range of stock items.

Top Tip – Always trust the process and believe in yourself, its good to be unique and create things that are totally different to others

I’ve always known I wanted to run my own business. Growing up fulfilment that came with it, and it became the direction I wanted to follow. My journey began when I decided to rent a space in Trinity Market and started selling vintage clothing—something I was passionate about. I sold both in-store and online, but over time, I noticed that the majority of my sales were coming from the online side of the business, while the shop wasn’t attracting the right customers for that market.

Rather than give up on my dream of being self-employed, I decided to completely rebrand my business and pivot to selling dog clothing and accessories. When people ask why I switched to such a unique business, the answer is simple: during my time selling vintage clothing, I observed how many people with pets walked by my shop. I realized I was in the perfect location to cater to this niche, and the idea took off. Today, my business is thriving!

In 2024, as I prepared to open my shop, I joined MC4C. They provided me with the skills and support I needed, helping me build my confidence. Now, I attend events and network with other businesses and organizations without the nerves I once had. I also received a Test Market Grant of £703.19, which helped me purchase the stock needed for my business. MC4C has always believed in me, and I will forever be grateful for their support.

Top Tip – Just go for it! No matter how unique your idea is. Don’t care what others are saying or thinking because you are doing this for yourself, you don’t become successful caring what other people think.
